Islay Homecoming Scotland 2009

Come and have a cracking night with one of the very best Ceilidh Bands in Scotland. A combination of music, song and good craic that satisfies all the requirements of a proper West Coast Horo Gheallaidh!

Our two main events will be August and September. The August event will run over the weekend 7th to 9th and we will be staging a full weekend of West Coast music and song, along with a wide programme to celebrate our rich heritage and culture.

The September event, concentrating on traditional Scottish/Irish music and featuring popular bands such as Meantime will be held over the weekend of 18th to 20th.

What makes Meantime extra special is the fact that in addition to playing that particular style of music well, they also write their own material. Not just tunes, but Gaelic songs. To have three writers of Gaelic songs - and four singers - in a four-piece band, is remarkable these days.

Westering Home to Islay Displaying their origins as a traditional dance band, Meantime intersperses the new songs with some full force, west-coast style tunes, played brilliantly on a range on instruments from small and big pipes, fiddle, box, guitar, jaws harp and moothie. The audience will certainly enjoy both the tunes and the banter from the band members!

In the preceding months there will be one night events and musical workshops and we have just about agreed a date for an extremely well-liked ceilidh band that will make the rafters ring.

Most of the activities will be based at Port Mòr but some events will take place at Portnahaven, Bruichladdich, Bowmore and the Columba Centre.
